Respecting the rights of all peoples to choose their own development path
It is the people of a country that are best placed to judge whether the development path they have chosen for themselves is suitable. Xi Jinping once used a folk saying as a metaphor: "No one but the wearer knows where the shoe pinches." By this he meant that it is an internal affair of a country to choose its own path, and no other country has the right to interfere or to prescribe or impose a certain track on others by force or sabotage. China has always held that all countries, regardless of their size, strength or level of development, are equal in international relations. It respects the right of the people of all countries to independently choose their development path; recognizes the differences in their cultures and traditions, social systems, values and concepts of development; and promotes different civilizations learning from one another's models of development for common development. And it opposes the attempt to use one single model to gauge our rich and varied world.
